Yes…because people give them answers here.

Yup. Plagerizing is really rampant now. It’s also a reason we have such lazy kids nowadays. They want the quick answer without learning anything. The web is a source for information but it has also become a place for breeding lazy people.

I don’t know. It seems to me that kids are expected to do a lot more for homework than we were. In elementary school I rarely had to do anything at home and if I did it was fairly simple, but nowadays even second graders are doing fairly complicated projects. Plus the teachers know that the kids have Internet access so a lot of them are given homework that requires that they get on line, which is great if you’ve got a computer at home, but not every body does.

Plus kids need to remember the saying “Don’t believer everything you read” is even more true when it comes to online. You can put anything you want on a web site with no oversight. (Books have the authors plus editors and fact checkers trying to verify everything before it goes into print.)

Loads easier. Some of my friends kids have homework which is to literally print things from different websites.

Wish I had homework like that when I was at school!

    I TOTALLY agree with wildhair!!!

most kids cut and paste answers and it’s hard for teachers to know if it’s plagerized…. Well unless it’s in language that you KNOW they would never use…

Most kids can’t understand reference books and prefer to use web resources that have it already in understandable form

I didn’t have internet when I was in college the first time and I learned about what was being taught by doing the research for the answers!!

the second time I was in college we had internet.. yeah, study time was quicker But thankfully the professors required reference book use so we would READ, learn to understand the basis of the research so we would have an understanding of the research itself, plus we learned to understand where to look for information.

The whole idea of homework is to help you learn / understand the information being taught then if you have done this you do well on tests / in school AND if you HAVE learned it then it carries over as background / basis for higher courses!

I think that kids do depend too much on the Internet. As a teacher, I always make kids write a paper that cites at least one book or magazine, and they don’t know how!! (I am a math teacher, so that one paper is HATED in my class!!) The problem is, a lot of kids think that everything they see on the net is true fact, but a great deal of it isn’t, so a lot of time is spent teaching them how to make sure the site is factual. As for cheating on homework, with IM, it is really easy to do now.

On the other hand, I do think that kids have more assignments to do now. When I was in high school (it wasn’t THAT long ago!!), we only had to do one major research paper per year. Now, the students are doing closer to ten, maybe even more. I know that in my school, these papers are nothing to joke about, they must be at least 10 pages typed, double spaced.

So, I guess it depends on how you look at it!!

The answer all depends on how children make use of it to do their homework!

    Possibilities:
Let’s see, if a child would browse the internet to find the solution for the question which he indeed finds it difficult to answer, by him/her, he/she has the opportunity to
    1. Clarify his/her doubts to an extent he/she could master them.
    2. Research and develop his/her knowledge.
    3. Learn tips and tricks, not bad, yet helpful routes, from fellow humans or most appropriately “Students”.
    4. Betraying the Teacher, by simply getting it from a crazy helper!

    Levels of Tendency:
    So what do you think?
    4 out of 3 are the Pro’s.
4 out of 1 is the Con.

    Conclusion:
Advantages – I’ll say that the present generation of students are blessed with the right ways and means to understand, research and master their subjects. It’s an easy life indeed. Yet, that efficiency could increase the capacity of knowledge attained within the very same period of time of getting to the library and visiting the reference section and getting the exact book after going through so many names. It’s a virtual world waiting out here on the internet. The physical nature of books are reduced to the size of CDs/DVDs or much smaller Pen Drives.

However, I’m not a critic who says, “that the books that are in libraries are useless!” Don’t you think of why, do certain prominent libraries have access to Main-Frame computers that are integrated to super-intelligent character recognition software with great scanning capabilities on it. That is to preserve the books you may say, yet the efficiency of not requiring to go through thousands of numbers of books, on the very subject is a great handiness gifted to us! Let’s make use of the technology we are gifted of.

Disadvantages – Children are much likely to spare time, letting the generous people on-line to do their home work, while playing with their friends. This would bring them some lethargy, towards learning. But, still they have the tendency of learning through the answers, given. As a responsible Answerer, it is vital to give explanations on how such an answer is produced? Is it correct? so on and so fourth.

It’s simply the inner-thing that needs changes in kids. They are supposed to be taught of the value of understanding whatever learnt at school.

    Good Luck!

Yes – do kids today even know how to use a card catalog, understand the Dewey decimal system, know how to use the publisher’s index to look up a magazine article…..we had to learn all of that when I was in school! I help my kids w/ research papers all the time and have made them learn the correct way to take notes on the research, etc.

  • kirsty rocks says:

no because im sire if u look at the type of work that kids do ‘these days’ then u will see a major difference

  • warren1515 says:

Yes, because now kids rely on sites such as this and get their homework done for them by using it frequently. What needs to happen to stop this form of cheating is that teachers need to come up with homework assignments that can only be done by the kids with no outside help. I know that is a tall order, but it can be done and must be done before we create a generation of kids who know little or nothing because they never had to study or do research.

And yes, I remember the library well, and the many librarians who helped me over some rough assignments by guiding me to resources. They were always anxious to help, and I was grateful for the service they provided. In high school and in college, your librarian ought to be your best friend!!
