Not at all, wordpress is the best CMS, blogging tool that I have ever come across. I have been designing using wordpress for the lat 2 and a half years.

    check this out mycom.lk
    and dotnetwizard.net

both these sites use wordpress and they are designed by me.

You can use Word Press for almost everything!
Even though it’s a blog tool, you’ll be able to change the design and layout to make it fit your need.
You can easily make a newspaper, magazine, review site, (blog), etc.

Hopefully you’ll find that Word Press can actually help you with whatever you need.

    Good luck!

I think you will need a custom theme. You can check my websites:

You can work seven pages with WP just fine: I have seven pages myself. (And about 6,100 posts, but that’s another matter.)

It’s pretty simple to operate. As with anything else, you have to back it up now and then, and restoring a database is a little trickier than just uploading a set of files, but there’s tremendous flexibility here, and if later on you want to get bloggy, or, say, drop your Twitter stream onto the site, it’s extremely simple.

I agree with everyone so far that Wordpress is an amazing CMS for websites, not just blogs. I use it for websites I create through my company, npwebdesign.org.

However, you do have to do some theme tweaking to get things to work just right. I suggest purchasing a good theme that was designed for Wordpress and meets your website needs. That way, you have very few changes to make.

But bottom line is, Wordpress is amazing!

You need a web host supporting wordpress/blog.

    Take a look at:

    Hope this helps.

I’ve been using Wordpress both for blogs and as a CMS for small business sites and it’s been great. I think it’s fantastic. I would say that the only downside – wait I know that it’s awesome that it’s free – but with the open source plugins you have limited support. So you do have to hunt around and if you’re not so technically minded it can be very frustrating trying to find the right plugin that will do what you want it to do. But that’s the cost of it being free.

I still think it’s great though and very powerful.

The downside to Wordpress is that it’s chunky. Most people do not need or use most of the features it provides. It takes a lot of space on the server and requires an Apache and MySQL database. Sometimes these features are not available.

It is also slow on the client-side. It takes more time to load than a static HTML website as the content is dynamic and is regenerated every time. Such software as Bblog outputted static pages every time you edited it to compensate, however, this increases the load on the server to generate it every time. It also uses up more physical memory on the server.

Wordpress is pretty good, however. It is easy to use and easy to customize. If you have any questions you can just drop me an IM on AIM: AlphaAmorphous. Good luck and happy Wordpressing!

There isn’t a downside. Actually Matt Cutts from Google hints that WordPress is a great website platform that is very search engine friendly right out of the box. If you spend a little time tweaking it there are huge benefits.

It all really comes down to your needs. If you are looking for a basic website then WordPress is a great platform.
